Open Door Presents Scholarships to San Francisco Bay Area Students

* Open Door Education Foundation (ODEF) awards information technology (IT) scholarships to ten students from three local community colleges.

* Local awards ceremony to include letters of congratulation from Representative Mike Honda; presentation by National NACCB President Bruce Grant.

* Open Door dispels myth that students must love math or science to excel in IT; encourages students of all ages to pursue IT careers.

Belmont, Ca - June 12, 2001 - The Open Door Education Foundation (Open Door), is proud to present ten scholarships to deserving students from City College of San Francisco, Foothill College, and Diablo Valley College. The awards ceremony will be held today at the Sofitel Hotel in Belmont, CA. at the local membership meeting of Open Door's affiliate organization, the National Association of Computer Consultant Businesses (NACCB).

The scholarship recipients, all pursuing careers in Information Technology (IT), were selected from local community colleges by Open Door, based upon scholastic achievement in computer-related courses, financial need, and computer-related volunteer activities. Many recipients volunteer their time to help other students in the schools' computer labs; others work full-time jobs and attend community college at night. The students will receive $ 1,000 each, which will defray the cost of tuition, books, and software. They will also receive Open Door certificates and letters of congratulation and support from Rep. Mike Honda (CA - 15th District).

Bruce Grant, National President of NACCB (Open Door's sponsoring trade association), will present the awards. NACCB's Northern California Chapter members, local computer consulting business owners, have contributed well over $150,000 to this effort, in order to 'open doors for others' in the IT industry.
